Publish Date: 7/23/2025

Planning a trip to Malaysia? Whether you’re headed for Kuala Lumpur’s gleaming towers, Penang’s food paradise, or Langkawi’s beaches, understanding the travel and visa rules is your first step to a smooth adventure. Here’s a complete and easy-to-follow guide for visiting Malaysia in 2025.

Do You Need a Visa for Malaysia?

For most travelers, no visa is required for short-term tourism or business visits. You can enter Malaysia visa-free for up to 90 days if you’re a citizen of countries such as:

  • United States
  • Canada
  • United Kingdom
  • European Union Nations
  • Australia & New Zealand
  • Japan, South Korea, and others

The Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC)

Even if you don’t need a visa, you must submit the MDAC online before arrival (unless you’re from Singapore, Brunei, or a few other exemptions).

  • When? Within 3 days before your arrival
  • How? Submit online at the official immigration website: https://imigresen-online.imi.gov.my/mdac
  • Cost? Free!
  • Why? Required for immigration clearance; some airlines may even check for it at boarding.

Pro Tip: Take a screenshot or print the confirmation. Malaysian immigration officers may request to see it.

Passport Requirements

Make sure your passport checks these boxes:

  • Valid for at least 6 months from your entry date
  • Has at least 1 blank page for stamps

You’ll also need to show:

  • Onward or return ticket…We can help, book now!
  • Proof of sufficient funds for your stay (not always asked, but possible)

Entry Process: Biometrics & Autogate

Upon arrival:

  • Biometric screening (fingerprints + face scan) is required
  • Some travelers (like U.S., Canadian, and Australian passport holders) may be eligible to use the Autogate system for faster entry

Tip: Pre-register through MDAC if you want to use Autogate lanes.
